Conveyancing Charity Foundation: This charity, established to assist conveyancing lawyers generate funds for charities, has hit a £400,000 milestone.

This was achieved through its Free Legal Fee Charity Competition whereby clients pay £10 at the end of their property transaction - £9 of which goes into the charity - and are entered into a monthly prize draw, the winner of which receives a £500 contribution to assist with the payment of their legal fees.

The latest firm to pledge its support and to introduce the competition into its practice is Northern Ireland-based law firm, Wilson Nesbitt.

Each individual conveyancing firm chooses the charity it wants to support. For example, Newport-based Convey Law is supporting Children with Cancer UK in 2016 and has raised £35,000 through the competition and other charity projects since September. It is looking to raise £50,000 by Christmas.

In September the Conveyancing Foundation Chairman, Lloyd Davies, together with colleagues, Geraint Aubrey and Rory Brown from Convey Law, took part in the Three Peaks Challenge - climbing the three highest mountains in the UK in aid of Children with Cancer UK campaign.

Martin House: A new wildlife garden is poised for planting at a children’s hospice - thanks to a green-fingered partnership being cultivated by a Yorkshire estate agent and one of its suppliers.

Linley & Simpson has selected Martin House at Boston Spa, near Wetherby, as its charity of the year.

Now it has linked up with one of its gardening suppliers, Nick Palmer of Harrogate-based company The Garden Keeper, to create a thriving habitat for declining species, such as butterflies, bees and hedgehogs, in a quiet area of spare land nestling in the picturesque grounds of the hospice.

Nick approached the company offering to plant something in a location of its choice for every job he completed – and both agreed that Martin House would be the deserving good cause.

As part of the initiative, Nick will now work alongside the charity’s maintenance manager, Matthew Ward, to choose the plants and explore what to do with them. Linley & Simpson has agreed to offer some volunteers to help with the planting.

Llamau: This is Wales’s leading homelessness charity, based in Cardiff but supporting projects across Wales. Llamau provides accommodation, housing advice to homeless and vulnerable young women in Wales.

Keylet teamed up with the charity to take part in a unique fundraising event, a sleep out which took place on November 10 at Cardiff City stadium.

For one night the staff swapped their beds for sleeping bags to experience a ‘good night’s sleep’ on the cold hard floor.

It was a challenge trying to sleep on cardboard boxes during winter, but whilst the fundraising event was designed to raise awareness of homelessness and the funds to tackle the issue, they did not claim to replicate homelessness in any way.
